The leak has been repaired in the water main break impactingthe Louisa County Water Authority’s Northeast Creek system. Water storage in the system currently remains low, however, staff is making gains in the system and will continue to work on reestablishing storage throughout the night. Homes and businesses may experience varying pressures until the storage levels return to normal.
Users may experience air in their lines and should “slow the flow” to let the air out. If users experience discoloration due to sediments, they should run cold water until it clears.
Water Conservation
While the Louisa County Water Authority staff transitions to filling the system, water conservation is highly encouraged and appreciated. Reduced water consumption during this period will help expediate the time needed for levels and pressure to normalize.
Continue to Boil
The Boil Water Advisory will remain in effect until testing is complete to confirm water is safe to drink.
Checking for Updates
The Louisa County Water Authority, Louisa County and the Town of Louisa will release updates as they are available. Note the Town of Louisa and the Town of Mineral rely on the Louisa County Water Authority’s Northeast Creek Water Treatment Plant, but they operate separate systems. As they operate separate systems, the towns may issue their own communications. Please follow the Louisa County Water Authority as well as the town in which you reside for the most complete information.

BOIL WATER ADVISORY
Notice to Customers of the Northeast Creek Water System
(DOES NOT INCLUDE: ZION CROSSROADS, SPRING CREEK OR NEW BRIDGE-LAKE ANNA CUSTOMERS)
BOIL YOUR TAP WATER Failure to follow this advisory could result in stomach or intestinal illness.
5/14/25
Louisa County Water Authority advises all customers to boil their drinking water. The boil water advisory is in effect until further notice. A significant main break has occurred on Jefferson Hwy. At this time the Northeast Creek system is the only system impacted by this service disruption. Crews are on-site working to make repairs and restore service. After service is restored, two sets of bacteriological samples will need to be analyzed and found free of bacteria before this advisory can be lifted.
DO NOT DRINK OR COOK WITH TAP WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, beverage, and food preparation, and making ice until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water. Boiling is the preferred method to assure that the tap water is safe to drink. To boil your water - Bring all tap water to a rolling boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water.
If you cannot boil your tap water an alternative method of purification for residents that do not have gas or electricity available is to use liquid household bleach to disinfect water. The bleach product should be recently purchased, free of additives and scents, and should contain a hypochlorite solution of at least 5.25%. Public health officials recommend adding 8 drops of bleach (about ¼ teaspoon) to each gallon of water. The water should be stirred and allowed to stand for at least 30 minutes before use. Water purification tablets may also be used by following the manufacturer’s instructions.
Once the Boil Water Advisory has been lifted, residents will be notified through the same methods of communication used to notify of the advisory.
